What can I use my Groupon for? Are there any additional costs?

Your Groupon voucher is good for one microchip for a dog or a cat. There is no additional cost for this procedure.

We do offer additional low-cost services such as vaccinations and spay/neuter surgeries. If you choose any of these additional options, your pet can be microchipped at the same time as their spay/neuter appointment, or during Vaccine Clinics at the Shelter.

When can I redeem my voucher?

No appointment is necessary to have your pet microchipped.

For a better chance at AVOIDING LONG WAIT TIMES, do not come to the Shelter during our Vaccine Clinics which are held every Wednesday and Friday from 3pm – 4pm, unless you would also like to have your pet vaccinated (Click here to learn more about our Vaccine Clinics).

The LEAST BUSY times at the Shelter are typically Tuesdays and Thursdays between 11am and 7pm.

You can redeem your voucher anytime during our normal business hours: Weekdays from 11am-7pm, and Weekends 10am-6pm.

What is the microchip procedure?

The procedure is as simple as a routine vaccination. A microchip is a form of permanent identification (as small as a grain of rice) that is inserted into the scruff of the animal’s neck using a simple, one-piece syringe mechanism that allows for injection in one step. Your pet might experience some initial discomfort, but the procedure is generally painless.

At the time of the procedure at our Shelter, the microchip will be registered so that the contact information traces back to you when scanned.

Why is it important to microchip your pet?

A microchip is an excellent identification device because it cannot be lost or easily removed. Along with a collar bearing an ID tag, a current rabies tag, and a dog license, a microchip is a fantastic tool to ensure your animal will be returned to you!

A lost or stray animal can be digitally scanned for a microchip at an animal shelter or veterinary clinic, which will lead to the owner’s information. Even if your pets are kept indoors, it is important to have them microchipped in case they ever accidentally get outside. Many pets can run away and become lost in frightening or unfamiliar situations such as during thunderstorms or while under a petsitter’s care.

How do I keep the microchip contact information up-to-date?

At the time of the microchip procedure, Foothills Animal Shelter staff will register your pet’s microchip in the HomeAgain microchip management database. If your phone number or address ever changes, it is very important for you to immediately update it through HomeAgain.com. Once entered in the HomeAgain database, microchips are registered for life, whether or not pet owners renew their annual memberships, and contact information may be updated online anytime free of charge by logging into HomeAgain.com.

How do I use my Groupon?

Bring your pet to the Shelter with a printout of your Groupon voucher or use the Groupon phone app to display the coupon. A member of our Customer Care team will add your contact information and your pet’s information into our database and have you sign a procedure consent form. A staff member will take your dog or your cat to be microchipped. If there is no wait, your transaction will take approximately 5 to 10 minutes.

What if I forget my voucher and I don’t have a Smart Phone? Can you just look me up?

Unfortunately, without a voucher or the phone app, we have no way of looking you up so be sure to remember your voucher.
